Crowns can be made from porcelain, porcelain fused to metal, or a full gold crown. To maintain a natural look and feel a porcelain finished crown is best, as it can be matched to the shade of your other teeth. It usually takes 2-3 visits to the dentist to install a crown.

On the first visit, the denist will take an impression of your tooth so that when the new tooth is made, it will match what you had. The tooth will be reshaped so that the crown can be placed over it.
The impressions or scans are sent to a dental lab where the crown will be manufactured. The permanent crown is usually returned to our office in two to three weeks. Dr Ras will select the shade that most closely matches the color of the neighboring teeth.
Dr. Ras will remove the temporary crown and check the fit and color of the permanent crown. If everything is acceptable, a local anesthetic will be used to numb the tooth and the new crown will be permanently cemented in place.

There may be a little soreness or pain in the gums after the procedure has been completed but this typically does not last very long and your teeth will be feeling better and stronger than ever in no time.
